The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is an excellent opportunity for international students who have completed their studies in Canada to gain valuable work experience. It allows them to work in Canada temporarily after graduation and potentially obtaining permanent residency in the country
KEY FEATURES
Duration: Valid for up to three years, depending on the length of the study program.
No Job Offer Required: Unlike some other work permits, a job offer is not required to apply for PGWP.
Open Work Permit: Allows work for any employer in Canada.
Eligibility for Permanent Residency: Work experience gained through PGWP can contribute to eligibility for permanent residency.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Completed Program: Must have completed a full-time program of at least eight months long that leads to a diploma, degree, or certificate at a Canadian post-secondary institution.
Valid Study Permit: Must have had a valid study permit for the duration of the study program.
Application Timing: Must apply within 180 days of receiving written confirmation of program completion.
CONDITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS
Duration: Valid for up to three years, depending on the length of the study program.
No Extension: Generally, the PGWP cannot be extended beyond the three-year limit.
Work Restrictions: PGWP holders can work for any employer in Canada, except for certain jobs where the employer has failed to comply with employment standards.
